I have been researching fabrics, fibres and glues with which to make my piece. On this quest I recently discovered the wonderful fabric shops of the Goldhawk Road in London, and was dazed by the array of textures available. My mind conjured up endless ‘what ifs’ as I walked among the tightly crammed rolls. I have always had an interest in manipulating fabrics, to invite a second look, a further inquisition into the how as well as the why of a piece of work.
I have bought silks and cottons, sheers and lace, and I am experimenting with glues and stiffeners to see how I can make the pillow hold its shape, whilst looking as if someone’s head has recently been resting on it. I am really enjoying the experimentation, and becoming very involved in the weightless and ethereal.
