Today, all of the artists selected for Cley 15 by curator Meryl Doney converged on the church in Cley-next-the-Sea just inland from the saltmarshes of the north Norfolk coast.
45 people listened to Meryl's introduction and then diverged to the various points of the church to inspect their allocated spaces. A busy time for Meryl, with lots of questions and discussions, taking into account the instructions of the 'bat man' as the church has a community of bats who must have an unimpeded pathway out of the church.
Meryl is also keen that the work knits in with the fabric of the church so there are challenges of hanging various pieces. However, the hanging team have a lot of experience in getting the best out of the church and there is a plentiful supply of interesting space.
It was a beautiful day with blues skies, showing off the best of the north Norfolk weather and the gorgeous landscape - a welcome change from the cold days of winter so there was also an entourage of artists heading down to the windmill and beach to check out the practicalities of installing work right on the coastline, finishing up at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Visitor centre for a cup of tea and a piece of cake.
By the end of the day, everyone was happy with their locations and went off home to prepare their workfor Cley 15.
